Secure Shell keys are being compromised and stolen from Linux-based systems, U.S.-CERT has warned.

— Aug. 19, 2008 — Hacker Holden Karau is porting the Devicescape Connect WiFi sign-on client to the Linux-based, open-source OpenMoko Neo Freerunner phone.

The attack appears to rely on stolen SSH keys to gain access to a system and then uses a local kernel exploit to gain root access, whereupon it installs the “phalanx2″ rootkit.
